Hear disqualification pleas within a week, share time schedule: SC to Maha Speaker

The Supreme Court of India has criticized the delay by the Maharashtra assembly Speaker in deciding on the disqualification plea against MLAs belonging to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction. The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, stated that the Speaker must abide by the dignity of the Supreme Court and cannot delay the proceedings indefinitely. The court directed the Speaker to hear the disqualification petitions within a week.
