High costs and shaky confidence may see US retailer holiday hiring drop to levels last seen in 2008

Increased labor costs and uncertain consumer confidence are cited as the reasons for this trend. Retailers are projected to add just 410,000 seasonal jobs, slightly higher than the number added during the last quarter of the financial recession in 2008. Holiday sales are also estimated to grow at their slowest pace in five years, as consumers become more cautious with their spending.
